Joint Spacing Affected by Strain

Based on the laboratory study by Wu (1993), prior to joint saturation in layered rock, joint spacing varies strongly with applied strain. Once the saturation stage is reached for each thickness of the medium, then, additional strain is accommodated by increasing opening or mechanical aperture.
