Compaction Band Height

The height of compaction bands in general is restricted due to the influence of dune boundaries on compaction band propagation and termination (Sternlof, 2006) as well as the restrictive influence of cross bed orientation on compaction band occurrence and propagation (Deng and Aydin, 2012). Figure 1 is a plot of the heights of a series of dunes from the latter reference. The height of compaction bands within these dune units should be smaller than the maximum heights of the dunes.
