Hybrid Pressure Solution Seams
The presence of pressure solution seams in association with other fracture types are well-known. In these cases, the fracture type may be said to be hybrid. Specific examples are provided in micromechanics of the fracture types. However, if pressure solution seams occur within a deformation band or a fault zone, the classification is more complicated. The overall kinematics should be used to identify the mode. For lack of a better term, the term, micromechanics may be used to indicate that various modes of failure may co-exist within the same structure. For example, an overall shear mode structure may have pressure solution seams at grain contacts or a pressure solution band may have local shearing of various senses between neighboring grains.
