Shear Band Height

Although there is not much systematic data on the height of shear bands, it is safe to assume that the thickness of the dunes or sub-dunes provides an upper limit for incipient shear bands. Once, shear bands develop onto a mature fault by linking of bands in adjacent sedimentary sequences, then, this limit is no longer valid and the composite thickness of the sandstone units or formations should be considered as a determining factor for the height of shear band faults.
