Multiple Fault Sets

It has been known that faults occur in more than one orientation in most regions since early geological mapping and mine works. The geometry of, and the cause for, such fault systems have attracted much attention through the history of structural geology, even at the present time. Multiple fault patterns are much more diverse than multiple joint and pressure solution seam patterns in part because faults have a wide variety of displacement discontinuities. For this reason, multiple fault sets for each major fault type are discussed separately as listed in the links below.
